Dr Priccilar Vengesai is a women’s rights activist who is a founding member of Priccilar Foundation for Women. She holds an LLD degree from University of Pretoria, a Master’s Degree in Human Rights from KwaZulu Natal University and a Bachelor of Laws Degree from Fort Hare University. Being a registered Legal Practitioner, Conveyancer and Notary Public in Zimbabwe, Priccilar is also a member of the Law Society of Zimbabwe. Her passion to emancipate women from the web of gender oppression is inspired by her own struggles and experiences as an African woman. From cultural fences to the glass ceiling, Priccilar challenges conservative, prejudicial and stereotypical conceptions of women in the traditional, patriarchal African sociocultural context. She is working on several articles presenting a reimagined perception of the African female. Her hope is to one day wake up in a world where every girl and woman is accorded same opportunities and life chances as the opposite sex and where differential power relations between men and women are non-existent. She is one of Africa’s contemporary voices on women’s emancipation and the struggle for gender parity.
